Olympic Ahorn competed at top International level and consistently placed in World Cups and Grand Prix competitions representing the Netherlands in Nations Cup competitions and was short-listed for the Barcelona Olympics. This earned him the prefix 'Olympic'. Ahorn is descended from one of the famous Holstein Families, no. 242 and is related to Joost, Alcatraz and Locarno. Ahorn's offspring continue the success with a number of progeny competing at International level. In recognition of his outstanding contribution to Dutch Breeding, Ahorn, whose progeny have earned over $1,000,000 in prize money, has been awarded keur status by the KWPN. Ahorn's sire is none other than the world famous preferent stallion Nimmerdor.
Ahorn's dam produced 4 approved stallions and so far 3 international showjumpers. A fantastic producer of broodmares, Ahorn mares are highly valued for their ability to transmit the characteristics of this high-performance jumper (deceased) stallion.
Ahorn's sire Nimmerdor, KWPN Stallion of the Century, was the Netherland's top sire of showjumpers to 1993. He became a Preferant Stallion approved by almost every Sporthorse and Warmblood breed society. He himself was a very Successful International Show-Jumper and sire. Siring over 50 approved sons, numerous competition horses, exceptional broodmares and daughters with great conformation. In breeding has a heredity reliability of 94%.
Ahorn's grand sire Farn, was discovered on a misty morning, 1st November 1962, a NWP committee visited the performance test in Westercelle, Germany.
There was a 3 ½ year old Holstein stallion that met their approval, called Farn.
They hoped that Farn, would sire fine daughters, broodmares that would help upgrade Dutch breeding.
Farn was the sire of many fine filly’s/mares, but also he sired sons & descendants that would continue the Farn dynasty, as well as provide the sport, show jumping in particular, with a large number of potential athletes. He added his Arabian influence to improve Dutch Breeding. Farn's history runs parallel to the history of the beginning of Dutch riding horse breeding. In the early sixties one had begun to transform the heavy agricultural horse into a type with more riding-horse qualities.
